For anyone trying to having problems installing Java 6 so that they can run Illustrator CS6 on High Sierra, this method works. Mac was running current Java version, so I went through the bash commands to uninstall Java so to reinstall Java 6. Unfortunately the Java dmg does not mount because it say there is a newer version already. But I have deleted everything, incl directories from Library and System Library. Use the Software Update feature available on the Apple menu to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Apple's Java for your Mac.

Jeyge , Oct 12, It appears that you need at least OS X Lion I read that there was a way to modify the Java 7 package to allow it to install on Snow Leopard though, so you may want to look at that.
