The green button shortcut doesn't work on all apps.

Oddly enough, iTunes would not work for me, but Chrome and Safari would. Simply use one of the other methods to initiate Split View then.
If you use one of the alternative methods to enter Split View mode, you can't use two third-party apps together. That means you can't use Chrome and Opera side by side. It also means you can't use one Chrome window and another Chrome window side by side. However, you can use third-party apps with stock Apple apps together, as long as the stock Apple app is chosen first. And obviously, not all apps will work anyway.
Those without full screen options will not work, and others might not, too, like Microsoft Outlook. Make sure to try all of the methods outline above before giving up. Hopefully this gets fixed in the final version. Also, a user on iMore said he had to enable "Displays have separate spaces" in the Mission Control settings, so that might work for you.

This is a very welcome feature but the fact that you have to go and click on the small green blob makes it unfriendly. And I recommend it to everyone also. These apps have full screen capability. Jeff, Try Spectacle. Is that possible to deactivate the Esc option to quit Split mode? At text, ou cells, I just want to escape cursor, or something that is not to quit split mode, but bye bye split mode! It drives me nuts.
When I enter Split View mode two documents in Pages , i cannot get out of it. I have Dock placed on the left side and when I go there with cursor — nothing.

Well, every 10th time the Dock shows. I have to click on some app Safari to leave Split View. Send your cursor to the top of the screen and click the escape full screen button to escape. I have to double tap my mouse to send the apps to the desktop background.
I click on that and I resume normal single view. I just tried it and success. Split screen is very handy for people like myself who like to multitask. Just because you have no use for it does not mean it is useless but only useless to you and those alike. I did find out that not all items with the correct green icon can be split screen together.

So, how do you grab a window on the Mac? After all, we grab and drag Mac windows all day long, and they never try to go into a full-screen split view.
To enter Split View on the Mac, you have to click and drag on the green full-screen button at the top left of any window. Doing so will drop you into Split mode. The menubar disappears, your window shrinks, and a transparent gray block covers half the screen.

This block is the target for Split View. Drag your window to the left of the right of the screen, and then drop it. Once you have dropped your window into one half of the screen, the other half gets filled with miniature versions of all the other app windows that are open.
Just click on any one of these to select it as the partner to your first window. Boom , as they say. If you already have an app in full-screen view, you can add another app to make it a Split View. To do so, swipe up on the trackpad with four fingers to Open Mission Control.
