Toontrack Superior Drummer 3: The Core Library on a 256GB SSD Hard Drive

Superior Drummer 3 does offer this. It's not as automated as Slate Trigger but it is still a good feature of SD3. Superior 3 offers a very extensive sound library but it dos not include every library that Toontrack offers. There are several expansion packs available for purchase separately. SD3 is quite similar in ease of use and functionality as EZ Drummer 2. You can dive in a lot deeper in Superior 3 but you don't have to if that isn't what you are after. You can just use presets and it will sound fantastic.

Yes you can spend hours tweaking things but it will often be at the expense of musical inspiration. Originally Posted by greggybud. EZD is more immediate. It's for the writer who wants immediacy without luxury. However SD2 and SD3 are just as "quick" at least for me. Customization, effect tools etc. I won't mention the actual sounds because it's going to be subjective and you can listen for yourself. Forget SD2, it's very old and not available unless on the used market.

EZX sound libraries.. Pop you could probably get by with what is included with EZD2. But there are also some different pop EZX expansions depending on your objectives. You can simply go to the Toontrack website and listen to the numerous examples and demos for all the EZX expansions and decide for yourself. Same goes for SDX expansions but of course they cost more but are also larger. You pay for what you get. George Massenburg doesn't work for free. Just go listen to the demos and decide for yourself.
Stay away from purchasing any Toontrack preset packs unless you know the quality and especially the content.
As someone else already said.. There are pseudo-workarounds for that, but if you want what this, then get SD3. In EZD2 it comes with the basics.

Again, just listen to the Toontrack demos of all the numerous EZX expansion packs, and the SDX expansion packs and decide what you want. Midi comes with each expansion. Think of it like when you initially purchase EZD2 you are also getting 2 expansions included in the price. The only reason to buy extra midi is if you want for example midi for Rock, or Latin Percussion etc and you don't have the Rock or Latin Percussion EZX expansion packs.
Honestly, if vendors can't answer your basic questions, I'm not sure they should be selling any Toontrack product. Any reputable vendor such as Sweetwater, etc should be able to answer these questions. That can be said about any musical instrument or tool. Not sure why you would specifically point out SD3. The OP is asking for differences and clarification. He should assume different learning curves and be aware of the distractions.
Personally I stay away from Slate. I don't like his marketing including how he generates interest in the forums. Example, a product that is several years overdue. NI is just more basic stuff However maybe you like the sound that isn't available anywhere else? Good luck! It sounds like SD3 is the best choice to grow into it. Id rather spend the money now vs regret not having it later. But it will come down to cost - value for me. GC lists exclusions, but Toontrack is not excluded. This is the example for the EZX Pop. Again, each expansion comes with its unique midi files. EZX Toontrack Every expansion has this type of description. Click on the Audio Demos. I dont see SD3 listed with packs.
