Wringing the Life Out of an Old Mac Pro Tower
You can get a dock, like the before-mentioned Satechi. This connector is often used with external storage devices. The name of the cable is confusing, because it could be mistaken for micro USB. This adapter has a female Lightning connector on one end, so you can plug in your Lightning earphones.
That was easy. Now, say you need a second headphone jack. You can use a splitter, like the Belkin Speaker and Headphone 3. Older versions of Thunderbolt have a different connector than Thunderbolt 3. This one can eat up a chunk of your budget, because there are so many different types of display connectors. Be prepared to buy several adapters. If you shop in person, you can check the box for the model number, and at an Apple store, you very likely will get the new model.
But if you shop elsewhere, you could end up with the old model. Apple has a support document that details the differences between the two adapters. When shopping for such adapters, look out for p support. The Nonda adapter has 4K video support. On the more affordable side but without the USB ports is the Simple. If you use a DLSR or other type of stand-alone camera, it might have a way to transfer your files wirelessly. Ugh, this one could be a problem.
What is Thunderbolt?
But maybe you have an older printer, or you find wireless printing unreliable. Most consumer printers have a USB-B port. Then you plug the adapter into the laptop. Originally Posted by Monotremata. What you need to know about Thunderbolt 2
Pale Pyramid. Have you guys thought about sailing a Viking long ship into Apple headquarters, battle axing Tim cuck and his beta board of directors and reshifting the entire product line of Apple to only make modern day cheese graters? Seems easier. And you only have to do that the one time.
Yes actually you do have to each time you boot the computer. Also won't work on any Mac Pro that's running Mojave or has an updated graphics card. We can't do the 'warm reboot' part. Otherwise we wouldn't need a Thunderbolt card for Thunderbolt devices would we?
Which Macs have Thunderbolt Ports? - Support & Download
I thought the on part 2 of the video Richard was running Win 10 then rebooted into Mojave via bootcamp? I might need to watch it again. I was actually wondering if it works on High Sierra. Was gonna ride my 5,1 until the new pros come out next year, even though 12 cores is plenty fast enough for me and everything is working just fine. Stupid, right? Looking to upgrade the interface and this opens up lots of options. A 5 minute boot time isn't a big deal, considering how often I don't do it.
My Studio.
Would be interesting to know if the handshaking can be done from Windows 10 inside Parallels. Then you wouldn't need bootcamp and the warm reboot. If I start the journey, I'll post updates here, and of course there'll be an article with the gory details. Reason: capitalization, added cabling comment.

I'm guessing the new pros will come with a new OS that will lock out 5,1s forever.
Don't really care how fast the new Mac are when I have no speed issues with my old Mac, but OSX is giving me more grief with every update. Originally Posted by MediaGary. When I booted into Windows and installed the support files, Bootcamp shows 5. I installed and ran Protools Ultimate My UAD-Quad card works as well. I'm still skeptical about ordering the Titan Ridge card to test out with my Apollo Twin. I don't was to upgrade to Mojave just yet. Hopefully someone figures out away to get it working by booting directly into MacOS.
I'm still trying to find out whether this is an implementation oddity, an temporary limitation, or just the normal gap between the simplifications necessary for advertising versus "how it really works". No matter what, it narrows the gap between what the x4 PCIe 2. Reason: added optical cable comment. Looking into the PCIe 2. I would assume that the data transfer would still be pretty fast even with the limit.
The software and hardware install seems straight forward but may look confusing to some people being that the video explain a lot for details about the whole process.
