I was able to successfully remove the label by heating at a distance and then melt the bottom of the compact by holding the product closer. I utilised the melted glue on the bottom of the pan to hold the product label in place and then was able to place the product straight into the palette. The Bare Mineral products are the two pans sitting to the far left.

Depotting MAC Eye Shadows Is Not Fun

Next, I decided to depot my Benefit Hoopla bronzer. Hoopla is perfect for this. I find that applying a small amount of this product makes for a more natural, less pasty look. The Hoopla was easy to depot due to its packaging being made of cardboard.

I took what was left of my craft knife and cut down the seam of one of the corners. The product came out immediately, sans glue. As with the Bare Minerals products, the pan was able to go straight into the Z Palette without requiring one of the metal stickers that they provide. I was right. The base of the packaging melts really quickly and easily and the product popped out by itself. I always lay out a towel in case of this.

So, using tongs, I held the product over the hob and… the tray melted in a very weird way. Unlike other product packaging that just goes soft and squidgy, this full on melts. As it does so it curls up, separating from the pan. Removing it is easy but you need to use tweezers unless you want to burn your fingers. I had the NARS pan out, without any damage to the product, in about five minutes. No more MAC palette nonsense for me! The Z-Palette brand is excellent for pressed pigments and domed makeup pans. After completing the first eye shadow palette, I got lazy and removed the inner tray from the pots without bothering to remove the pans from them, and placed the trays into the palettes.

Less work, and much less frustration meant a happier Stacey. I spent a third day using my lazy depotting method on the domed MAC eye shadows.

I thought it would be easy and safe. I was wrong. I sliced my fingertip and jabbed my right hand three times with the knife I was using to snap the domed shadows from their pots. But after placing them in the domed Z-Palettes, I was a pretty happy camper. Finally, on my fourth day of makeup organizing hell, I pressed all the small sample jars of MAC loose pigment which I had collected over the years. Those turned out beautifully:.

How I depot MAC Mineralize blushes, eyeshadows, and MSF's
