Install Virtualbox

Open a command prompt with administrator privileges. Change directory to the path where you have installed VirtualBox.

Remember the disk number associated with your USB drive, and change the last digit in the following command, if necessary:. You will use this in the next step. To be able to use raw devices as virtual disks, VirtualBox needs to run with administrator privileges. In the following picture you can see a Windows installation kit booting directly from an USB drive in a virtual machine. Keep in mind that every time you want to boot from your USB drive, you have to run VirtualBox with administrator privileges. On some motherboards, virtualization features are disabled by default.

Boot From USB on a Windows Host

Everytime I try to Boot following this guide I get This: An error has occurred during virtual machine execution! The error details are shown below. You may try to correct the error and resume the virtual machine execution. Make sure there is enough free space on the disk and that the disk is working properly. Operation can be resumed afterwards.

Seems like you skipped this? I had this issue as well. The reason seemed to be that the raw volume used by guest OS was also mounted in host OS, so they were conflicting. This made the drive inaccessible for the host system. What they want is to install the OS to the virtual disk. But, the reality is, what is desired here is for the Virtual machien to recognize the usb stick as bootable, not as a hard drive. You've decided to leave a comment. That's fantastic!
