Added to that are two gobo wheels, a 6 slot plus open, rotating gobo wheel with bit accuracy; and a 9 slot plus open, fixed gobo wheel. Both feature a set of exceptional gobo designs, all replaceable. Martin has included a fully motorized zoom in the MAC capable of beam angles from 14 to 30 degrees. Lenses inside the MAC come with optical coatings to decrease light loss and to provide a better projection quality.

The lens system also comes with remote focus control for easy adjustment of the sharpness of the image projected. The dimmer also works as a shutter for instantaneous blackouts and variable speed strobe effects.

A motorized iris is also included for reducing the beam size. A replaceable, rotating, 3-facet prism is also fitted in the MAC Pan movement is degrees by degrees of tilt. A new pan and tilt motor driver system gives exceptional speed for a mid-sized fixture. Movement is 16 bit, and an intelligent position correction system automatically returns the fixture to its original position if knocked out of place.

Multi connectors and spring loaded release mechanisms mean that no tools are necessary to remove and insert modules.

And a multi position tilt lock keeps the head where you want it. The company launched a new big spot in , the ColorSpot AT , mounting a watt lamp, and since then, along its partner ColorWash AT , these are the big bosses of the AT family. Well, I forgot Martin. Martin has no w spots in catalogue actually. Mac is part of the history since the w Mac III s lead the discharge-lamp fixtures and Mac Viper s cover the mid range with their w lamps. So, again, Robe follows the path Martin creates.

This an evidence, but not specially a goal. Martin did it ok for years, and we know everything is ok if Martin guys put their equipment in your show.

Lots of models, most of them discontinued in a few years, and no standards. Customers started to be suspicious after Mac was discontinued; I needed to travel to Colombia to operate my first show with Mac III fixtures. I think Martin is not leading the revolution right now. But it seems Robe guys still believe in Martin.

In the past I used to think in Robin fixtures as the new generation of low range moving lights, but this is a mid truth. Instead of ColorSpot AT, they have the Robin Spot , but they have no Robin wash fixtures to substitute the traditional wash. Robin is something like a new brand inside Robe, including discharge spots and LED wash moving heads. This is not a good idea neither Martin way is for a lighting designer who has to choose over thousands of models with different names, but anyway. What a MMX Spot can do? You can check it out in this video:. They are lightweight, smaller than the big ones, and optimized.

Robe: what I like and what I dislike

And if a wash works OK in a show when using watt spots, why I should be interested in a wash with a w lamp, w equivalent? Also talking on Robin products, Robe engineers should think in the lack of confidence related to the real life of their products. It is incredible that an entire line of products released in , announced as a revolutionary concept Robin Plasma Spot , Robin Plasma Spot and Robin Plasma Wash, all of them mounting a special w plasma lamp with a 94 CRI index are now discontinued.

A fixture with 5-year lifetime? Amazing business. Everybody talks about these new fixtures. Great design, nice performance, good reviews. I can not understand what Robe guys had in mind when they released the new Cyclone , but I could test the Robin LED wash series and they are pretty good. In fact, they are too much. Why a Robin Led Wash?

Nobody knows. I must say Robin was a totally waste of time. Of course it is not a beam, as we all know them. Interesting for a club? Robin is the real deal, because is the main product of the line. You should test this Pageant with a Robin LedWash to see a real competition. But anyway… you can read more about this in my latest post about LED moving lights.

At least in video, I am very impressed on its zoom and prism feature. They say DLX can beat a watt spot fixture which one? A VL? I must admit this fixture is gorgeous. Great video graphics, great performance, incredible light output, with ANSI lumen. I could test it last week, using two of them to build a 10 meter video screen in blending mode. The results are great, wonderful. And its price, below the standard DL family.

Affordable, and recommendable. So, as a conclusion, I should say… Robe is an interesting but confusing brand, with unnecessary models, but great performances. They are cheap and they build qualified european products, but they also tend to discontinue almost everything in this world, and their innovative ideas are also the most dangerous obstacles for a lighting operator. Love and hate, like everything.
