Is this version of Pro that I just installed going to turn into a pumpkin when I am in the middle of a project?
Editors' Review
You could just install SketchUp Make from sketchup. It did used to be that you would install SketchUp Pro, with LayOut and Style Builder, and you could use all the pro features for a while. Today you would could still download and try Pro, but when it expires you would then have to download Make, which is the same as the non-Pro version used to be. So, you could have continued to use the old SketchUp you had, and not worry about LayOut not working, but having a fresh Make version will at least give you the latest features.
There is no reason to give others false worries. Right clicking to select seems to be fine though. And blaming Microsoft and their automatic updates is the solution? Updating and downgrading intel drivers has not worked for me.
Okay, well Trimble needs to pony up and fix this because Microsoft is not gonna do anything about it. Electric cars. Trimble has clearly demonstrated their ability to fix Pro Uh, you know, by doing what software developers do and fixing a problem instead of blaming the OS manufacturer and doing nothing. And I feel like Trimble is wasting mine.
Not trying to direct anger at you. Sorry if it seems like that. Or have they promised or guaranteed not to send an end-of-life bomb to old SketchUp installations when those installations check-in on the web?
LayOut | SketchUp Help
They have said that SketchUp Make will continue to be available for download. Nothing more. Big deal. If the outlines are too close, it becomes more difficult to cut out. To me, the huge advantage to this over paper and pencil is the very fact that you can slide the pieces around. Also, If you are using your computer to model…use it in the shop.

I take requests. Cut list Pro is good. But really, if the job isnt urgent, why not just move em around on an 8 x 4 sheet, for example, and see how they fit.
For example: I was able to cut an expensive order from 4 sheets of x mm to 3 when i saw that the mm widths I need happen to have the shelf at which could cover a join, so easy to use offcuts. Silly example, but Su has saved my ass a few times now. The bottom line being; if it dont work in sketchup, it dont work in reality.
Using the free version I made scenes for all three views and put the dimensions in separeted layers. If you need a label or a stamp, do it in another program and just insert as image. A friend of mine uses SU pro to design cabinets and do presentations, but he uses a dedicated CNC program to do what you want - it optimizes the materials, does cut lists etc. In a way, I wish there was a plugin that would keep it all on one plane. I just did a floor plan and some of the lines are obviously not level. Just wait to see the blue dot before each click.
Hi Gully.
Happy Easter. How does that work with importing plans? Should I draw the rectangle, then import the image onto the rectangle and draw on that? G deb You want to draw on an object that will induce On Face inferencing.
There are, I believe, four kinds of objects that can be used for that purpose. They are:.
So, depending on the circumstances, you could use any of these objects, all of which exhibit the behavior you were originally looking for. And so on. The essential thing is to wait for the expected inferencing feedback before clicking every single time to make sure you stay on plane. Frankly though, I am slightly baffled by the volume of people using SU to make or modify 2D drawings.

LayOut alternative for someone that does not need Pro SketchUp. Thanks for the information. Learned something new.
