This is essentially a large, triangular, extruded-aluminum frame in the middle of the new Mac Pro that acts as both the structure for the computer and a central heat sink. The inside of the triangle looks like a traditional heat sink, with thin slats to increase surface area.
The result is a single heat sink that services the entire computer.
Should you buy (or upgrade to) a 2017 Mac Pro?
The new Mac Pro also contains only a single fan. Located just below the top of the cylinder, this fan sucks air up from vents at the bottom of the computer, and over the thermal core to cool it, and then pushes the now-warm air out the ring at the top of the enclosure. Apple told us the computer produces only about 12dB of noise at idle, and roughly 17dB under load. The top of the Mac Pro without its outer aluminum casing.
Air sucked through the bottom of the computer flows through the Mac Pro and escapes through the ring of vents on top. Pick it up by its handle—the rim around the fan exhaust ring on top—and it feels heavy and solid. But thanks to its diminutive profile and attractive design, this is clearly meant to be a computer for your desk, rather than something you hide under your desk. Each model also includes Apple offers a slew of configure-to-order CTO options for each.

Businesses in still need accountants, managers, customer service teams, inside sales groups and other employees who are stationary in the office.
They use PCs.
When those desktops wear out they will be replaced by new desktops, and when new people are hired for office jobs they will also require new desktops. You will buy a desktop PC because, like the rest of my clients, when you evaluate the cost you'll agree that a desktop PC offers more bang for the buck more power for less cost than a laptop.
So will your next desktop be a Mac Pro? No, it won't. Instead you will buy a desktop PC that runs Windows because it's not only less expensive but -- let's face it -- it seems to work better than the current line of Mac Pros. You've got enough problems in your professional life as it is -- why invite Apple's problems into your office as well? It's a masterpiece of engineering and suitably expensive. Fresh ideas such as the unified thermal core and backlit expansion ports together with high-performance components combine to make the Mac Pro the ultimate high-end workhorse. In the meantime, however, there is no shortage of options when it comes to Macs designed for power users.

It features Intel Xeon E5 processors — quad-core or six-core off the shelf. Eight-core and core processors are available as custom options if you buy from the Apple Online Store, but there's no option for two processors. At the same time, its two AMD FirePro GPUs deliver up to eight times the graphical performance of the previous-generation Mac Pros, though to be fair, when the Mac Pro went off sale in due to an amended EU safety regulation, the graphics card it offered was already well out of date.
Unsurprisingly given its compact size and the way Macs have developed over the last few years, storage is solid state. Equally unsurprisingly, there's no optical drive. At the heart of the new Mac Pro is the thermal core, a unified heat sink around which the processor board and two graphics processor boards are attached.
