I am looking at the Macro in the file you attached. Thank you very much for this post, I find it very useful, but I have an additional question: Is it possible to keep hyper-links related to a local network folder or another folder situated in My computer, when using this formula? How can you adapt this to password enable ranges in the drop down list. The conditional list works well however when I copy the sheet into a new tab, the conditional list stops working.

The defined names have twice as many items for example my list that applies to the workbook and my list that applies to the new tab.

Can you please help? When you copy a sheet with defined names you get duplication.

No easy way around that. If you need more than one worksheet in a workbook, the defined names on each sheet must be different. Excel will usually give you the option to rename the defined names, which is good, but means that you will have to re-do the Data Validation by using the revised name. Great post. Thanks for the formula. It appears to be sufficiently long enough to give me a headache just by looking at it.

Given this, we can return a dynamic range that dynamically references a discrete portion of a table using nothing but INDEX. We can build a dynamic range that references the Slave picklist depending on what the Master picklist is set to. All we need to do now is put a colon between them, and call it a day:.

Thanks for doing this. Hi again Greg — solved my Header problem. Hi Gregory, thanks for this very useful post! Is it possible to create a dropdown list that also allows for a list item to have start and end dates?

Not sure what dates you are talking about. This seems to work great for a two-tier dependent dropdown list, but what about a three tier system?

The recipient could then complete the form on his or her computer and return it to you. Here are some pointers to how to create a form using Word and To make them visible you have to enable the Developer tab on the Ribbon. You can now use these controls in a document. The Text Box lets the form-filler type in their own answer.

How to Create Multiple Linked Dropdown Lists in Excel

Double-click on this Text Box to control its options. And I have multiple columns that call on a couple of different lists. So a macro or Mac compatible VBA solution still seems more suitable. Solutions you find should work as is or with minor tweaking provided the solutions do not rely on Active-X controls, which are not supported on the Mac and won't be until someone ports them they're open source. There are various form controls available. I think if you hunt around you can find examples of how to make a combo-list edit control work using autocomplete.

There are two catches. You would need to trap an event double-click a cell, for example to trigger the dialog. If you prefer, you could use a UserForm control instead of the dialog, but there's no combo list edit control in Userforms, so you would need to do a workaround.

However, an overriding concern is the maximum number of rows that are suppored by the combo-list edit control. My memory says that it's limited to 5, rows, so your data may not be able to be displayed by this control. I did a quick search but could not verify my suspicion. If you are willing to have the data in one workbook, and put the the worksheet on which data validation is needed into its own workbook, you could use ODBC via a parameter query to validate the input.

There are many approaches you could take to building an autocomplete routine using data retreived via ODBC from the data source. Hi, I'm Leah. I have the same type of problem, except I would like to be able to create drop-down lists with auto-complete functionality for a list of no more than items. The biggest problem seems to be, I have Excel for Mac.

Do I have any other choice but to purchase Excel in order to enable the AutoComplete feature? I'm not a programmer, so beyond basic code, I am out of my league. Thank you, L. Excel Mac Excel does not support Macros. I can't think of a way to implement AutoComplete in Excel
